Volunteer Opportunity Description: Learn basic information about the North Star House and its history, then welcome visitors to the house, answer questions, and offer to show them around if they would like a brief tour.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Sign up for two or three 3-hour shifts on Saturdays, 9am-noon, from May through September. We occasionally request a few docents to volunteer during other activities at the house. Attend training session (see below)
- Be on-time for shifts you sign up for. You will receive a reminder email.
- Monitor email periodically for docent-related information.
There will be a 2-hour new-docent training session the first Wednesday of each month 9am-11am followed by a general docent meeting, May through September. The trainings feature topics of interest to docents, including some guest speakers. If you are unable to attend training on Wednesday morning, the Docent Leader will arrange another time to meet with you. You will be provided with basic information. The first couple of times you act as a docent, you will be scheduled with more experienced docents so that you can “shadow” them and get comfortable with the position. We provide additional materials and presentations for docents who want to learn more.
