Warming Shelters / Other high risk events for the Homeless Community
The County of Nevada is looking for volunteers to staff our warming shelters, and workers for other events that put our homeless population at risk. With winter fast approaching and more reports of storms and snow coming to Nevada County, we are definitely in need of people to make sure a safe and warm shelter is available to those without standard housing. Volunteers are requested to work an 8-hour shift, and can work one or more days of any given event.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Report to emergency event manager
- Flexibility to adapt to necessary duties
- Facilitate food, sleeping arrangements, and other basic needs as requested
- Supervise customers utilizing the shelters and provide for all needs
- Provide safe and welcome atmosphere
- Interact with customers with a positive attitude
Qualifications:
- No specific education or experience needed
- First Aid Certified a plus, but not required
- Must be able to lift at least 20lbs
- Must be 18 or older
- Must pass a background check
