Grand Jury – County of Nevada

Grand Jurors are needed now! Volunteer for the Nevada County Grand Jury and be part of the “watchdog agency” that makes sure your county government runs smoothly and tax dollars are spent wisely. You'll enjoy the experience!

The Jury is continuously recruiting. Currently we need many jurors to serve starting July 2022 through June 2023. The time commitment is 10-15 hours/week. Most weekly meetings are held via Zoom, so no commuting to the Eric Rood Administrative Center (County office) is necessary at this time. You even earn a small stipend for every meeting attended and can be reimbursed for mileage should in-person meetings occur.

Get to know other dedicated citizens of Nevada County from the comfort of your home. The Jury comes from a great mix of occupational and educational backgrounds. Grand Jury deliberations are conducted in utmost secrecy, and jurors are sworn to maintain confidentiality. The Jury is especially keen to find Jurors to represent Truckee/East County.

Desirable Grand Juror qualifications include:

• Be in reasonably good health
• Be open-minded to the views of others
• Have an interest in community affairs
• Have a general knowledge of the function, authority and responsibility of city and county government
• Possess investigative and computer skills
• Have the ability to write and edit reports

Required Prospective Grand Jurors qualifications (Penal Code 893):

• Be a citizen of the United States and 18 years or older
• Be a resident of the County for one year immediately before being selected
• Be in possession of his or her natural faculties of ordinary intelligence, of sound judgment, and of fair character
• Possess sufficient knowledge of the English language
